About Avid

Avid Learning, the cultural philanthropy arm of the Essar Group founded in 2009 has, over the past decade, grown into one of Mumbai’s leading public programming platforms and is firmly entrenched in the country’s wider cultural ecosystem. Our thoughtfully curated and diverse events embrace the spirit of collaboration to bring together the best of Indian and international writers, artists, intellectuals, cultural experts, policymakers and industry leaders across Visual Art, Literature, Culture and Heritage, Education, Design & Technology and the Performing Arts through engaging and dynamic formats like panel discussions, workshops & master classes, roundtables, lecture demonstrations, festival platforms, symposiums & conferences, multidisciplinary performances and walkthroughs.

To date, AVID has conducted over 1400 programs and connected with more than 150,000+ individuals, a widely eclectic group of life-long learners including students, patrons, practitioners, influencers, thought leaders and cultural & creative enthusiasts in Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Bangalore, Goa and Gujarat.

We have also made our mark internationally, with events and collaborations in Dubai and New York. We regularly collaborate and partner with institutions, organisations and initiatives like the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), (CSMVS) Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), one of the apex bodies that impact cultural policy and the creative sector as a whole. We have been at the helm of programming at the Royal Opera House, Mumbai India’s only surviving Opera House since its reopening in 2016.

We believe in the importance of arts for social change and we regularly offer our support and platforms for Social Advocacy. In April 2020, we launched AVID Online, an online further learning campaign on our social media platforms for our followers to engage with a range of varied topics across the breadth of the arts. Our eclectic faculty of experts, thought leaders, practitioners and innovators continue to share their learnings, expertise and knowledge on our social media platforms with tailored content featured weekly for AVID’s online community and beyond. In collaboration with long-term and new partners, we have since dimensionalised the campaign by re-introducing our existing offline formats and IPs and enhancing them for digital engagement. We have taken our content live with engaging masterclasses and virtual panel discussions and also built robust tangential campaigns and series in support of worthy causes and highlighting topical issues.

AVID continues to give truth to our belief that #LearningNeverStops!

AVID's art programming covers the entire spectrum of genres from visual to performing and applied arts. We've had the privilege of working with both established artists as well as emerging ones on walk-throughs, previews and panel discussions, and have introduced several art enthusiasts to the basics of collecting, looking and writing about art through engaging workshops and masterclasses.

AVID has supported the 2nd Edition of Kochi–Muziris Biennale, as ‘CSR Partner’ and hosted the Mumbai Curtain Raiser for the Festival Launch. AVID has also launched a forward looking, thought leadership Series titled, ‘Beyond Contemporary Art', a 4 Episode Series convened by one of India's most prolific Art Critic, Curator and Cultural Theorist and also Jury Member of the 56th Venice Biennale, Ranjit Hoskote.

AVID's literature programming has engaged a stellar lineup of authors, writers, journalists and academicians from all over the world, who have mentored aspiring writers and literature enthusiasts in various forms of writing, have discussed their works commented on the future of their field in panel discussions and launches.

AVID has also held curtain raisers and hosted panel discussions at the Jaipur Literature Festival and has curated workshops and masterclasses at the Tata Literature Live Festival over the years. Our work in literature thus far has earned us the preferred partner status with most of our collaborators, and we have been invited to take on larger roles such as supporting the curation of the Literature Section at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival for 2016.

#culture and heritage

AVID has pioneered an inspiring Culture and Heritage Series, which features some of the best Indian and International Scholars, Institutes and Practitioners who bring their knowledge and experience of ancient Indian Scriptures, Rituals and Practices to public audiences via Panel Discussions, Workshops and Cultural Festival Partnerships.

AVID has recently been been invited by the prestigious Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies to set up their India Chapter in tandem with local partners.

AVID has increasingly begun  to curate programs around upcoming and fresh trends in entrepreneurship, innovation and technology. AVID was the first to launch a series linking culture and the city, titled, 'MULTIPOLIS MUMBAI',as a platform for the exchange of ideas in the world of architecture, music, food, theatre, fashion, environment, literature, innovation and film. We also launched the AVID IDEALOGY Series that explores breakthrough ideas and thinking poised to impact our culture and society in a whole new way. Our belief behind introducing this series is that good ideas need to travel far, and we would like to do our bit to spread them across a broad audience of Mumbai residents including corporate executives, creative enthusiasts, innovation geeks, entrepreneurs and students.

AVID has been proud partners of TEDxGateway for the last few editions and also hosted the curtain raiser to the first TedxGatewayWomen held in Mumbai.AVID has also curated master classes, panel discussions and workshops at Social Media Week, since its inception in Mumbai, past of the biggest crowd sourcedworldwide event exploring the social, cultural and economic impact of social media in our country and worldwide.
